Best Rapper Alive?

Front Cover

.. That’s the question that my fam Trackstar the DJ and TSS pose on their new tape, Best Rapper Alive? Royce Da 5’9″ vs. Lil’ Wayne.

“Since Jay-Z stopped worrying about being the best and declared himself the greatest, many people have claimed the title of Best Rapper Alive, but few as often as Lil Wayne and Royce Da 5′9″. While Wayne is a global superstar and Royce owns the underground, they seem to share similar taste in beats — “D.O.A.,” “I’m Me” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” as notable examples. I went ahead and put together twelve rounds of Nickel and Weezy facing off over the same beat, threw in a boxing motif, and now I’ll let the people decide.”

Trackstar

Now, although I would never personally consider Weezy anywhere near the best, he has made such claims in the past. Nickel Nine, however, is undoubtedly among the elite especially with his newfound second wind, leading Slaughterhouse and pumping out one of the illest albums of ’09 in Street Hop.

I was actually unaware that Royce spit over some of these beats, so I’m impressed by the way Trackstar put this tape together as a one-on-one bout for lyrical supremecy. Check it out below and decide for yourself who wins.

Shouts to the man himself & TSS for the link, Enjoy!

This Ain’t Rappin’, This Is Street Hop

 Royce

.. Has sprung a leak! Sorry to bite a Nas line, but it’s my blog so I do what I want, aight?

If you’re anything like me,  you’ve been waiting on Royce Da 5’9”s solo LP Street Hop since he announced it back when Slaugtherhouse was buzzin’ the group’s pre e-fuckery.

I stick by my opinion during TRU’s Brain Trust discussion on the hottest MC in Slaughterhouse:

[Royce]’s the most complete MC, swiftly maneuvering between abrasive battle raps and astute verbal acrobatics. The others are dope, but competition within the crew has elevated Nickle Nine to the height of his ability.. Finally!

To celebrate such a glorious moment for the Detroit MC, I’ll link you to the full download for a limited time only. I won’t mention my connect, ’cause he’s well-aware he’s that dude, just know it’s legit.

Now all we need is that Bad Meets Evil reunion and I can die a predominantly happy hip-hop fan.

Pre-order your copy of Street Hop before it drops October 20th to support real fuckin’ music, my good folks.

Now I usually don’t do this, but.. Enjoy!

Bad Meets Evil

Royce, Eminem

I won’t die, I’m never leavin’
I pledge allegiance to forever breathin’
-Royce

I’m crazy excited to post this throwback freestyle from Eminem and Royce Da 5’9′,’ who used to be collectively dubbed “Bad Meets Evil.”

Slim Shady and Nickle Nine spit quotables galore for 12 minutes, I can barely keep up.

In my opinion, Royce > Em during this particular freestyle. What say ye?

Shouts to the homie Sam C of TSS for liberating this joint, Enjoy!

Street Hop Sampler

Royce

Here’s something to start the week off proper.

Check out the snippets for one of my most highly-anticipated 4th quarter albums, Royce Da 5’9’s Street Hop.

I wish Primo produced more of this, but the track list looks dope regardless especially that Phonte feature and the Bun B & Joell Ortiz collab. I’m also interested to hear those productions by Mr. Porter and Green Lantern.

Shouts to DJ Premier Blog for the link & list, hopefully this will hold you over until it leaks drops on October 20th. Enjoy!

11 Ultimate Hip-Hop Trios

New Wu

With the dream-team of Ghostface, Raekwon & Method Man forming like Voltron possibly even before ’09 kicks the bucket, heads everywhere should be drooling over the possibility of an album from the Wu-based trio.

Similarly, the three-headed monster Random Axe comprised of Black Milk, Sean Price & Guilty Simpson leaking “Monster Babies” off their upcoming collab album this year was monumental.

These combos really are dreams come true. So I got to thinking, what other combinations of MCs would hip-hop heads like to hear? Here are my choices for 11 of the ultimate hip-hop trios:

Jay-Z, Nas & Eminem
