DJ Heat – Late Night With The Roots (Mixtape)

Late Night With The Roots (Mixtape)

Questo & Black keep their vision to the sky, the rest have their eyes on the road. Fitting.

I’ve been a long-time, outspoken fan and critic of the Legendary Roots Crew. When they became the house band for Fallon’s new gig after Def Jam put so much time into marketing their CDs (#sarcasm), I was ecstatic that they’re hard work was finally recognized on a larger scale. Plus, after raiding the OkayPlayer store yesterday during its 50% discount sale, it’s only right I post this.

The generous DJ Heat recently compiled all of The Roots’ live renditions to date with guests of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Performances include Q-Tip, Public Enemy, Mos Def, Luda, Ghost, Rae, and, well you can read the tracklist for yourself. It showcases the Philly band’s single “How I Got Over” in its pure form, plus that Clipse set is damn near phenomenal.

Download link and track list below. Shout to 2DB and Heather for the heads up. Artwork by Shake. Oh, and props to the only whiteboy in the group, bassist Owen Biddle, for holding it down for us soulful yet melanin-deficit brothas, Enjoy!

Cop Today: Ghostface, Del & Tame, Jay ARE, & P.U.T.S.

Ghostface – Ghostdini : The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City

Among the multitude of hip-hop albums dropping today, here’s a few that caught my eye.

Y’all already know how I feel about that Ghostface album. In addition, I suggest checking out from J. Rawls & John Robinson as jazz-hop duo Jay ARE, an eccentric collabo between Del the Funky Homosapien & Tame One, plus a brand new LP from Los Angeles’s  People Under The Stairs.

Click on the cover or title for a link to purchase, do your part to support hip-hop (and jazz, this time around)!

Videos from Ghostface Album Release Party

Last night was pretty epic for both hip-hop culture and my personal journey as a part of it.

Ghostface tore down Hiro Ballroom NYC for his Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City release party, bringing out a boatload of special guests including U-God, Jadakiss, Redman, Large Pro & Kid Cudi.

After promoting William Cooper’s Beware of the Pale Horse on the street with Cooper & BP then waiting three hours on line in the chilly Manhattan wind, we finally made it inside right before Ghost rocked.  Similar to the other times I’ve seen Tony Starks live, the energy was non-stop intense – rap cats of all ages (even Hov)could take away a few pointers.

As for me personally, I met Pharoahe Monch, 9th Prince of Killarmy and Trife da God throughout the night. Besides a scuffle on stage as near the end of the show, it was extremely dope overall.

I’ve linked some of the concert footage popping up round the ‘net. Up top is a good angle, shout to Ian for the heads up & Digiwaxx for the vid. You’ll see a different vantage point down below, thanks to Khal for the heads up.

Let’s go hip-hop, Enjoy!

Event Reminder: Ghostface x Beatnick & K-Salaam Tonight

Tonight

Here’s your friendly reminder that MySpace Music, Socialight & Digiwaxx are presenting Ghostface Killah live tonight at Hiro Ballroom NYC alongside production duo Beatnick & K-Salaam.

Doors open at 8 PM, but since this is a free show I’d recommend showing up crazy early. William Cooper and I will be in the building promoting Beware of the Pale Horse so come say what’s up if you see us out there. Dallas Penn might be joining us as well.

Ghost will be promoting his latest effort Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City while Beatnick & K-Salaam should be rocking songs from their fly remix album Never Can Say Goodbye featuring reinterpretations of classics from Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

Download Never Can Say Goodbye below and support Tony Starks (and my Amazon account) by scooping his album here. Shout to Freestyle Madness Blog for the link, Enjoy!
