Sound Table 12/11/09 Featuring Elzhi, Method Man & Redman

Boomboxin'

Stacy Epps, lookatdemlips!

Cot damn, I been neglecting my Sound Table series where I routinely feature some of the illest new songs, mixtapes, EPsetc on the ‘net. My bad!

We’ve got a few choice bangers to get you through this blistering cold Friday (notably for my Tri-State readers).

Method Man & Raekwon collab’d for a track supposedly off their album with Ghostface Wu Massacre, dropping February of next year. I can’t possibly express what it means for hip-hop to start a new decade with a semi-Wu-Tang album. It could will be one for the ages.

The most exciting project on this edition of Sound Table is Detroit MC Elzhi’s The Leftovers UnMixed Tape, a collection of the Slum Village rep’s features, remixes and rarities. Bolstered by production from Black Milk, Jake One, & Oh No, this will hold hip-hop heads over until Elmatic or The Feed. Weren’t they both supposed to drop this year? Whatever happened to that? Sheeeeeit (c) Clay Davis.

On top of that, there’s a fine selection of leaked tracks below to choose from to load up the iPod, including a remix to African songstress Nneka’s song “Walking” with the 2nd best rapper alive Jay Electronica and a brand new jam from Sade(!!!). Get ’em while you can, party people.

Big thanks to Aaron M knobbz, Jeff Weiss, LegendNick & my external hard drive for the audio, Enjoy!

Kimbo Price

Kimbo Price

Ah, where was I? Oh, yes.
Shawn Carter is nice but Sean Price is the best

Let’s keep it goin’, shall we?

If you aren’t anticipating Sean Price’s new mix CD Kimbo Price, then I don’t think I can help you. Maybe his new track will. “Figure Four” is fully-packed with his signature rawness and ruthless bravado – defined byMerriam-Webster as “a blustering swaggering conduct.” That, my good people, is the only allowable use of “swagger” or any of its derivatives on my site.

Here’s the scoop on the disc from the press release:

We have seen that Sean Price is a multifaceted individual. With the start up of his newly formed label, RUCK DOWN RECORDS, Sean Price still finds the necessary time to record and promote his own albums. KIMBO PRICE, the prelude to his next national album, MIC TYSON (2010), is a 23 track mix cd that brings the listeners into the world of Sean Price that we love so much. If you know Sean Price in some capacity, you probably got dissed on this album. The rapper goes so far as to say he doesn’t even like himself!

Be on the look out for new Sean Price videos off KIMBO PRICE tracks and stay tuned for exclusive music from Sean Price’s new super group, RANDOM AXE comprised of Sean Price, Guilty Simpson and Black Milk.

Catch Sean Price at a Fat Beats In-Store signing for his new mix cd on October 23rd from 6PM – 9PM and the following evening for a live performance at Duck Down’s CMJ Showcase at Gramercy Theater. Tickets for the event are now on sale through Gramercy’s Site via Live Nation:

Cop Today: Skyzoo – The Salvation

I see ’em lookin for the real, but they ain’t find that yet.

I can’t believe I overlooked this earlier today. Better late than never, right?

Brooklyn verbalist Skyzoo dropped his debut solo album The Salvation today, a joint venture between 9th Wonder’s Jamla Records and underground imprint Duck Down Records.

The disc is an earnest auto-biographical account of Sky’s entire life, boasting top-notch production from Just Blaze, Black Milk, Nottz, Illmind and of course 9th. Keeping with the self-revelation concept, The Salvation has only one feature – singer Carlitta Durand. The rest was solely on Sky’s shoulders – luckily, he’s a high-caliber MC that can handle the workload.

Upon first listen, I’m thoroughly impressed by his development since The 3 Day High, which I thought sounded forced and unnatural. I can tell he took  the proper time and effort to focus his vocals, resulting in a captivating listen with hardly any filler.

Don’t believe me? Wanna find out for yourself? I got you covered. Click the artwork up top or go here to buy it from Amazon. Peep the track list below with a download link to the cut produced by Just Blaze. Don’t say I never gave you nothin’!

11 Ultimate Hip-Hop Trios

New Wu

With the dream-team of Ghostface, Raekwon & Method Man forming like Voltron possibly even before ’09 kicks the bucket, heads everywhere should be drooling over the possibility of an album from the Wu-based trio.

Similarly, the three-headed monster Random Axe comprised of Black Milk, Sean Price & Guilty Simpson leaking “Monster Babies” off their upcoming collab album this year was monumental.

These combos really are dreams come true. So I got to thinking, what other combinations of MCs would hip-hop heads like to hear? Here are my choices for 11 of the ultimate hip-hop trios:

Get Yours: Nowalataz

14KT

This is hands down one of the best instrumental albums I’ve heard all year. I’ve been vibing to it all afternoon.

I know everyone is yapping about the BP3 and OB4CLII leaks (rightfully so), but don’t pass up this Dilla-inspired collection of beats from fellow Michigan producer 14KT that hit the ‘net last week months ago in internet time.

In the words of 14KT himself:

Whatupdoe? First off, I must say THANK YOU for supporting me and my music!! As a result of your support, I want to share some upcoming music from my 2nd album entitled Nowalataz.

Also due to the success of my first album, The Golden Hour, I will be releasing The Golden Hour 2XLP on (LIMITED EDITION GOLD VINYL w/ Full Cover Artwork) coming end of September. I will also be on tour with Mayer Hawthorne x Buff1 x Houseshoes beginning September 5th. A physical release of the Nowalataz Digital/CD is in the works.

Here it is.. a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey (aka J Dilla) passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor”, I started making “donuts” … uncontrollably.

Fellow heads should be excited to see that last track “Black & Gold” featuring none other than celebrated producer Black Milk.

Peep the download link below. Shouts to Freestyle Madness for the inspiration, Enjoy!
