DJ Shadow – Freeform, All-Vinyl DJ Set – October 31, 2009 in Los Angeles

DJ Shadow

Well, I’ll be damned.

I haven’t seen this mix by the everlasting Joshua “DJ Shadow” Davis, a personal favorite of mine, posted anywhere besides my local torrent community. So it’s only right I share this special live mix with everyone.

Shadow spun this particular blend of musical beauty last Halloween night at LA’s Legendary Park Plaza for KCRW’s Masquerade Ball. He rocked his now famous sampling technique amid pinpoint scratching and nifty mixing for his set, which clocked in at a little under two hours.

Oh, did I mention he played Serato-free? To you newjacks out there, this means he lugged crate upon crate busting at the seams with vinyl (gasp!) to represent with two turntables and a sampler like few can these days, for the true school.

I’d much rather have been scoping pretty ladies to DJ Shadow’s tune’s then whatever lame dime-a-dozen DJ played where I was that night, but at least I can envision what it would have been like to be there thanks to whoever recorded this.

Shouts to the generous folks of ****.cd (what, you thought I’d give my secrets away? You crazy, homes) for seeding this torrent, Enjoy!

Stevie Wonder & John Legend [Live]

Stevie Wonder

WordPress is drivin’ me crazy. I’m having trouble embedding videos so if it doesn’t show up below, click here to see the video at some bootleg hip-hop website.

I saw this Sunday on the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert special on HBO, and I been waiting for it to make its way to the web.

The legendary Stevie Wonder brings John Legend on stage to tribute Michael Jackson, singing “The Way You Make Me Feel.” At one point, Stevie is so overwhelmed by emotion that he breaks down during the performance.

Powerful stuff, and well worth a viewing. Big thanks to the good homie Khal at Rock The Dub for the vid, Enjoy!

Noisemakers EP

Noisemakers

Spotted this yesterday while watching the Giants illustrate exactly the opposite of what a good defense looks like. I’m lazy today so here’s some copy and paste action from J. Period:

3 Exclusive New Remixes + Freestyles Starring Talib Kweli and Remixed by J.Period!  J.Period & Talib Kweli’s “Noisemakers EP” celebrates the latest installment of Peter Rosenberg’s critically-acclaimed Noisemakers series. Noisemakers with Talib Kweli is going down on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 92YTribeca (tickets available in advance at: http://tiny.cc/WrAgg).  J.Period & Talib Kweli’s “Noisemakers EP” also offers an advanced preview of J.Period’s top secret, upcoming mixtape collaboration with Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek)…coming soon!!!

I wish I could go but I banned myself from New York City events during the week due to hangovers causing me to miss work personal reasons.

A top-secret RE mixtape? That’s what I’m talmbout!

Shouts to Meka for the heads up, Enjoy!

Track List:

1. Ambitionz (Exclusive Freestyle)
2. Youthful Re-Edit (Exclusive Freestyle)
3. Country Couzins (J.Period Remix) f. Bun B

New Blu & Exile Track

I have no idea about any of the details about this song whatsoever. All I know is I get excited whenever I see “new” and “Blu & Exile” in the same sentence.

Why? The duo is responsible for one of the best albums of 2007 (if not the past 5 years), as you’ll learn when I drop my list of the decade’s best albums.

They performed this track at the Roxy in Los Angeles recently, shouts to Heather for the link. I can’t wait ’til the CDQ drops, Enjoy!

Videos from Ghostface Album Release Party

Last night was pretty epic for both hip-hop culture and my personal journey as a part of it.

Ghostface tore down Hiro Ballroom NYC for his Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City release party, bringing out a boatload of special guests including U-God, Jadakiss, Redman, Large Pro & Kid Cudi.

After promoting William Cooper’s Beware of the Pale Horse on the street with Cooper & BP then waiting three hours on line in the chilly Manhattan wind, we finally made it inside right before Ghost rocked.  Similar to the other times I’ve seen Tony Starks live, the energy was non-stop intense – rap cats of all ages (even Hov)could take away a few pointers.

As for me personally, I met Pharoahe Monch, 9th Prince of Killarmy and Trife da God throughout the night. Besides a scuffle on stage as near the end of the show, it was extremely dope overall.

I’ve linked some of the concert footage popping up round the ‘net. Up top is a good angle, shout to Ian for the heads up & Digiwaxx for the vid. You’ll see a different vantage point down below, thanks to Khal for the heads up.

Let’s go hip-hop, Enjoy!

Tonight

Here’s your friendly reminder that MySpace Music, Socialight & Digiwaxx are presenting Ghostface Killah live tonight at Hiro Ballroom NYC alongside production duo Beatnick & K-Salaam.

Ghost will be promoting his latest effort Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City while Beatnick & K-Salaam should be rocking songs from their fly remix album Never Can Say Goodbye featuring reinterpretations of classics from Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

Download Never Can Say Goodbye below and support Tony Starks (and my Amazon account) by scooping his album here. Shout to Freestyle Madness Blog for the link, Enjoy!
